Anciennes chansons ou folksongs d'origine anglaise, écossaise ou irlandaise, "importées" par les émigrants dans les zones rurales des Appalaches et dans le Sud des Etats-Unis. Ces chansons furent collectées entre autres par Newell qui fonda, en 1888, avec Child et Boas l'American Folklore Society. Dans ce cd, les chansons traditionnelles ont été arrangées pour orchestre de chambre par Craig Leon.
