TAMPOON IN CAMBODIA

Enregistrements de terrain parLaurent Jeanneau en 2003-04 dans la province de Ratanakiri dans le nord-est du Cambodge. Ce disque propose des chants de l'ethnie Tampuan, parlant notamment des Khmers Rouges, accompagnés d'instruments à cordes. Quelques notes en anglais. (ASDS)

"The TAMPOONs are an ethnic group, living in the west and south of Ratanakiri province, they belong to the MON Khmer family and are the first inhabitants of this area. I guess that they have been under the cultural influence of the Jarais with whom they share a lot musically, especially the fascination for gong playing in animist ceremonies, like all other "montagnards" in this part of South East Asia but also similar bamboo instruments. Each Jariang song tells the history of a different year, those jariang talk about the Khmer Rouge time" (notes de la pochette)
