Dating back to 1973, this is the one and only album by Boulder, Colorado folk rock group Propinquity. The album is based around solo pieces by each of its various members, with the others helping out with arrangements and instrumentation. Carla Sciaky's exquisite 'And I A Fairy Tale Lady' will already be familiar to Numero devotees via the Wayfaring Strangers: Ladies From The Canyon compilation - it's one of many standouts on the record, and serves as proof that '70s folk needn't be the exclusive property of hippy dropouts and weirdoes/wyrdoes. In addition to the original twelve tracks from the LP issued on the Owl label (who apparently issued some of Tod Dockstader's early electronic experiments), this reissue includes a further four tracks, two of which are previously unreleased while the other two appeared on the Owl compilation Sing-In Boulder. It's pretty remarkable that Numero can unearth great lost recordings with the sort of consistency they do, and this Propinquity release has to rank as one of their greatest finds to date. This isn't some kitsch period piece or curiosity, there are some genuinely marvellous songs here: check out Pat Hubbard's beautiful 'Ohio' and Sciaky's Vashti Bunyan-like 'Miles Before Sleeping'. Highly recommended.(Article paru sur Boomkat)
