"Remember that guy...John Somebody?...He was a...sort of a b'..." asks the repeating master tape loop of a woman's voice, as other smaller loops join in, and then pop jazz instrumental figures imitate the rhythm and add funky melodies and cross-rhythms (built on the smaller samples of the loop) in accumulating levels which suddenly break and start again with interpretations of the loops. We find ourselves tapping our feet and wanting to dance. An original and appealing album where Johnson clearly demonstrates for his listeners the relation between ordinary speech and musical rhythms."
