"Composer Jay Chattaway approaches the movie with an abundance of dynamic action themes but also leaves room for suspense and even a reflective moment or two - but action still gets the spotlight! The Invasion U.S.A. soundtrack has an interesting thematic structure with the main melody begining as a stark, diatonic line for unison brass, then breaking into heroic ideas with major-key harmonies in tow. Also of interest is the fact that Chattaway uses the then-new digital delay device throughout the score which allows for a variety of orchestral motifs to play then reverberate in a dramatic fashion with the opening three-note "thump thump thump" motif just one of many reverberating highlights."
