Lizz Wright naît dans la petite ville de Hahira dans le sud de la Georgie, d'un père pasteur. Pendant son enfance Lizz voyage à travers le Sud en chantant avec ses parents. En 2002 ses performances - dans le cadre d'une série de concerts en hommage à Billie Holiday - attirent l'attention; viendra ensuite son premier album « Salt » (2003), qui fait connaître la richesse de sa voix, éduquée par le Gospel, dans un contexte/rencontre soul très R&B/Jazz.[www.biosstars.com]
