"Baozoo, strictly a cappella, is the style of singing of DAO people (pronounced zao), originated from China where they are called YAO, they actually call themselves MIEN, they are subvivided in 8 different groups with 2 different languages. On this cd Red and Black Zao share a lot in common, the Red Zao have been recorded in different villages around Sapa in Lao Cai province and the Black Zao in Lai Chau province. When sung in group, the baozoo is canon singing, a female leadsinger have her words repeated by one or more other singers. The piem zat is a reed instrument that requires circular breathing."
